Justin Bieber's 'Boyfriend' Video: Frame By Frame

Director X sits down with MTV News and breaks down the sexy new clip, including the deets on 'Chunky Bieber.'
By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Vanessa White Wolf

<P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a> drives fast cars, nuzzles with one very lovely young woman and gets his dance on in his <a href="/news/articles/1684600/justin-bieber-boyfriend-video-youtube.jhtml">record-setting "Boyfriend" video</a>. Fairly simple in its concept, the video is a snapshot of what it would be like to party with the teen star and his hip friends on a rooftop in Los Angeles.</P><P>MTV News recently sat down with <a href="/news/articles/1684418/justin-bieber-boyfriend-video-cars-girls.jhtml">Director X</a>, and he broke down what it was like to hit the set with the 18-year-old as he readies the next phase of his career, the more mature <a href="/news/articles/1684079/justin-bieber-believe-album-cover.jhtml"><i>Believe</i> era</a>. The video is the lead visual off Bieber's June 19 album, and X took us through the clip, frame by frame.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Frame By Frame: Justin Bieber's 'Boyfriend'" id="vid:766128.id:1684574" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>"We start this off with the car stunts," he said of the opening shot. "We wrecked that car by the way; both of those Mustangs were pretty shot after this video, completely shot after this video."</P><P>From there, fans are invited to Bieber's car-themed rooftop bash, one that recalls the type of shindig another teen idol from back in the day may have thrown.</P><P>"So we got this rooftop here in L.A., starting our day with Justin and he's pulling up. We got all the cool kids hanging out," X said. "Justin's new look, he's kind of got a James Dean thing going on here. That's really Justin driving that Mustang ... and he did all the stunts by himself, completely. That's all him," X joked. "Actually, that's us holding the car. We put the car on these wheels and we pushed it around in circles while Justin pretended to drive."</P><P>Justin's "smooth" driving moves are matched only by the real ones he uses on his female co-star, Rachel Barnes. "We got Justin with the girl, pulling [her] around [with the] kids dancing, 'cause you know how kids do. That's what goes on [at these get-togethers]: Someone brings out their guitar and the party happens," he explained.</P><P>"The idea really was to show a lifestyle piece &#8212; Justin hanging out &#8212; to show that he's older ... just to see this new vibe," the director added. "We get to see that he's growing into his manhood. [We] just [wanted] to get in an environment where we can show that naturally, just have fun and get the vibe of who he is."</P><P>While Bieber and his lady love in the video captured fans' attention, a co-star who was dubbed "Chunky Bieber" on-set has also gotten some buzz. X explained, "[Chunky Bieber] came with one of the cars and somehow [Bieber's manager], Scooter [Braun], I don't know how in the world they got into conversation where Chunky Bieber started dancing somehow." Apparently it all went down when the director wasn't looking. "They taped 'Chunky Bieber' to his shirt and Chunky Bieber got in the video."</P><P>As the video closes out, Justin's dancing skills are on full display. "Got some footage of Justin dancing, [and] those are really his feet," Director X said. "He can do that, and that's it: Justin Bieber, bad boy."</P><P><center><object width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" id="embeddedPlayer" data="http://videoplayer.vevo.com/embed/embedded" style="visibility: visible;"><param name="bgcolor" value="#000000"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><param name="wmode" value="transparent"><param name="flashvars" value="playerType=embedded&videoId=USUV71200411&playlist=false&enableDomScan=true&siteSection=MTV_mtv.com&playerId=62FF0A5C-0D9E-4AC1-AF04-1D9E97EE3961&autoplay=0&endScreen=play&cc=US&cultureName=en-US&cultureIsRTL=False&sbId=14A00605-7DB5-4492-B67B-CB2093BD89DD"></object></center></P><P><i>What do you think of Justin's "Boyfriend" video? Robert Plant And Alison Krauss Win Grammy Album Of The Year

Raising Sand, from Led Zeppelin vet and bluegrass superstar, wins five Grammys on Sunday night.
By James Montgomery with MTV News staff

<P>"I'm bewildered," <a href="/music/artist/plant_robert/artist.jhtml">Robert Plant</a> said onstage as he accepted the <MTVNLINK type="news" id="1604580">Grammy Album of the Year award</MTVNLINK> with <a href="/music/artist/krauss_alison/artist.jhtml">Alison Krauss</a> on Sunday night. "In the old days we would have called this selling out, but it's a good way to spend a Sunday."</P><P>He was probably one of the few who were surprised, because <i>Raising Sand,</i> which won five trophies at Sunday night's show, is in many ways the perfect <a href="http://www.mtv.com/news/grammys/">Grammy</a> album. It features two respected veterans, a critically lauded producer, some sandpaper-and-velvet vocals and a baker's dozen of time-tested standards.</p><div style="margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; float: left;"><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:338316" width="256" height="223" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" flashVars="configParams=instance%3Dnews%26vid%3D338316" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed></div><p></P><P>You're probably familiar with Robert Plant from his <a href="/music/artist/led_zeppelin/artist.jhtml">Led Zeppelin</a> days, and you might be aware of producer T-Bone Burnett's work on the "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" soundtrack (it won the Grammy for Album of the Year in 2002). And if you don't know who Alison Krauss is, she possesses a haunting set of pipes and is one of the meanest fiddle players in the world. Oh, and she's won 21 Grammys, more than any other female artist and the seventh-most in history.</P><P>Really, she's the key to <i>Sand</i>'s success, and not just because of her voice (or her fiddle playing). She and Plant first met in 2004, at a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame tribute to legendary bluesman Leadbelly, and the former Zeppelin man was amazed by her knowledge of American Roots music &#8212; so much so that they began kicking around the idea of recording an album together. Three years later, <i>Sand</i> was released.</P><P>And while Plant possesses the more famous voice, the album's finest moments radiate from Krauss. Whether she's getting bluesy on Little Milton's "Let Your Loss Be Your Lesson" or entwining with Plant's husky voice on songs like "Please Read the Letter" and Roly Salley's winsome "Killing the Blues," she more than carries her end of the bargain.</P><P>And perhaps that's also due to producer Burnett, who handpicked the 13 songs the duo cover on <i>Sand.</i> His arrangements are sparse &#8212; giving the two voices ample room to breathe &#8212; yet dense, warm and crackling at the same time. It's a testament to his work that he's often given just as much billing as Plant and Krauss on the project ... and it's certainly justified.</P><P>To date, <i>Sand</i> has sold more than 1 million copies, heaped tons of acclaim and actually earned a Grammy last year &#8212; "Gone Gone Gone (Done Moved On)" took home the award for Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals.</P><P>One expert was surprised not by the album's success, but by the fact that it's actually quite a good album.</P><P>"At first, the album seemed like a vanity project. ... Two names, clearly a one-off record, didn't have to be any good, you know?" <i>New York Times</i> music critic Jon Caramanica said. "Led Zeppelin fans would buy it because of Robert Plant, Alison Krauss would get a check. But it actually turned out to be a really thoughtful, really <i>good</i> record. So when you combine all that with the fact that the Grammys love to lionize one of their own, I could really see it taking home some awards." </p>

Tanning Mom Patricia Krentcil Banned From Salons!

Patricia Krentcil has earned the nickname Tanning Mom after she was accused of encouraging her five-year-old to use a tanning bed, leading to burns on her skin. But that is now only part of the problems she is facing. Now her favorite places in the whole, wide world—tanning salons—are starting to black list her. According to TMZ, she is no longer welcome at many of the salons near her home in New Jersey. Can you blame them? The one that allegedly allowed the five-year-old to tan is now under investigation as part of the child abuse case against the mother. But all of this leads me to a few questions. Should tanning salons operate more like bars, where they can deny you if you’ve had enough. This lady has DEFINITELY HAD ENOUGH. She makes the crew from the Jersey Shore look like Casper The Friendly Ghost. It’s not cute, or even midly nice looking, it’s just plain scary! Many of the salons near her have gone so far as to post pictures of her (I can’t imagine having to look at her so often) in their stores to keep staff from allowing her in. It’s almost like the are afraid [...]

pstrongOn what she tells her teen daughter about fame and social networking/strong/p
pquot; You know what, I think she has learned so much from me and my experience that I don't have to tell her anything. nbsp;I would let her judge for herself and make her own decisions, she's a smart girl. nbsp; She's not even famous and she's already felt the sting. nbsp;I allowed her to get a on social networking site with Instagram and already she has 10,000 followers. nbsp; She already feels judged and there are people stealing her pictures. She told me, 'Mommy, I don't know how you do it....I want to delete my Instagram because I don't like people in my business.'nbsp; I just teach her to not let other people's opinions determine who she is or can be.quot;/p
pstrongOn how women should carry themselves as an example to their daughters/strong/p
pquot; There are a lot of women who fight on television and I promised myself that I would never do that. nbsp;My advice to women who are put in bad situations in front of their kids is to shut down!nbsp; You don't have to participate in the madness.quot;/p
pstrongOn how she gets her children's respectbr /
/strong/p
pquot; One thing I teach my daughter is to have patience. nbsp;I'm always calm and I speak to my kids in a calm tone. nbsp;I never raise my voice to my daughter. nbsp;Once you raise your voice, kids stop listening.nbsp; If I ever emneed/em to raise my voice, my kids know I mean business.quot;/p
pstrongOn what she loves most about being a mother/strong/p
pquot; It's my motivation, my kids are everything. nbsp;I don't know what I would do without them. nbsp;I wake up every morning and take my kids to school and try to remain normal. nbsp;I love being a part of their life. nbsp;I don't need anything else but my kids.quot;/p
pstrongOn the hardest part about being a mother/strong/p
pquot; The hardest thing for me is always thinking that my daughter will make the same mistakes as me. nbsp;I got pregnant at 16 and sometimes I'm always comparing her life to mine. nbsp;I had to realize that she's not me. nbsp; She's a different girl and I have to know just because I did it, doesn't mean she will do it. nbsp;I tell her, don't be like me.....be better than me.quot;/p
pstrongOn instilling faith in the kidsbr /
/strong/p
pquot; As a parent, you should have a foundation in your home and that includes the fear of God.quot;nbsp;/p
pstrongOn handling peer pressurenbsp;/strong/p
pquot; When it comes to peer pressure, teach your kids to be leaders not followers and don't let them fall into the trap of comparing themselves to other kids.quot;/p
pstrongOn navigating the hard task of communication with teen daughtersbr /
/strong/p
pquot;I always tell my daughter that if she needs anyone to talk to that she should come to me.nbsp; There is nothing you're going through that I haven't experienced because I have been through it all!quot;nbsp;/p

pEmily told us that it's ironic that she sees herself evolving into her own mother./p
pemquot;Everything I hated growing up that I heard my mom say...now I understand. nbsp;My mother would always say, 'I'm not your friend I'm your mother.'nbsp; And that's one thing I tell my daughter all the time.quot;nbsp;/emnbsp;/p

April Kauffman: New Jersey Radio Host (Photos)

There may be a break for the family of April Kauffman. New Jersey radio host, and businesswoman extraordinaire, she was found shot to death in her bedroom last week. Kauffman’s claim to fame was her job as a radio personality in the New Jersey area. She was also well known as a strong advocate for military veterans. Her voice could be heard hosting a show on WOND up until earlier this year. Police believe the murder occurred sometime over night on Thursday. A friend of her’s named Donna Clementoni says she sent the slain DJ an email around 2AM the night before she was found dead. Her friend called her a “local legend,” and says they were planning an event to benefit war veterans together at the time of her death. The most amazing thing I was able to find on her is that she would spend her Thanksgiving providing a loving meal to nearly 50 recruits from the Cape May U.S. Coast Guard Training Center. I love that idea. These are recruits, not even seasoned veterans. It shows that she wants to support them from the beginning and let them know that someone is in their corner at all [...]

'Dark Shadows' Brings Out Best In Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer

The film works most of the time, but its conclusion is sure to leave fans divided.
By John Mitchell

Eva Green and Johnny Depp in "Dark Shadows"
Photo: Warner Bros

finally hit theaters Friday (May 11), and let me tell you, it's a doozy. There's a lot to admire about Tim Burton's reimagined "Shadows" (and there are some problems as well), but the question that has lingered with me most since seeing the film is who exactly Tim Burton made it for.

I'm not sure it was "Shadows" purists, those who ran home from school to soak up the strange, dark and wonderful late-'60s soap opera and who still have a strong connection to the style and feel of the original. It's probably not for fans of Burton and Johnny Depp's earlier collaborations either, even though the trailers and TV spots sell it like it's supposed to be.

"Shadows" has long been talked about as a passion project for Burton and Depp, so in the end, maybe they made it for themselves. And the thing is, up until the very last 15 or so minutes, I was right there with them: Their affection for the original is clear, the performances are uniformly wonderful and it gives Burton room to breathe in a way we haven't seen in years. It's unfortunate that its everything-but-the-kitchen-sink conclusion feels strangely tacked on, because until then "Shadows" is the best thing the pair have done together since Depp gave one of his finest performances in Burton's touchingly bizarre 1994 film "Ed Wood."

Barnabas Collins isn't anything like Depp's crazed Mad Hatter from "Alice in Wonderland" or his maniacal Willy Wonka from "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory." Don't be fooled by the jump-cut trailer — it actually falls among his more reserved performances. The zingers that seem borderline farcical in the trailer work better than you expect — they certainly earned hearty laughs from the audience when I saw the flick — and are peppered throughout, lending a more even tone than I expected.

Depp's Barnabas is an old-fashioned gentleman trapped in the body of a monster, and the actor never lets that fact get lost, even when the film's myriad subplots pull him in a hundred different directions. His vampire is far more human than the actor sometimes seems in movies in which his character's heart is still beating.

In a testament to how winning Depp is, he's able to play a 200-year-old vampire in (occasionally too obvious) white makeup without sucking all the air out the room, leaving room for the supporting players to soar. Most notable are Michelle Pfeiffer and Eva Green.

Pfeiffer is in full-on grande dame mode as family matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard. It's a kick to see the thrice Oscar-nominated actress get a meaty role in a big picture like this, and she does not waste the opportunity, providing the entire affair with some much-needed grounding. Her gaze is steely and she carries herself regally, though years of hardship have clearly chipped away at her character's resolve, all of which comes across like a metaphor for the crumbling estate she guards, Collinwood.

Green is a four-alarm hoot as the evil witch Angelique Bouchard, or Angie, as she's come to be known by the townspeople in Collinsport, where she's reinvented herself as a fishing magnate specifically to take down the Collins family business. Sure, she's an evil witch who has been tormenting the Collins family for centuries, but these days she's more of a cherry-red-convertible-driving good-time girl — albeit one with grudge that runs deep. Green chews the scenery and spits it out, which works like gangbusters in an over-the-top movie like this. She's so game throughout, you almost find yourself rooting for the bad guy.

As for Burton's direction, there's an unexpected streak of sentimentality and nostalgia running through "Shadows" that recalls "Big Fish" as much as it does the film's more logical brothers ("Sleepy Hollow," "Beetlejuice"). Operating on sets instead of green-screen soundstages, he hasn't set his "Shadows" in a cartoon. Collinsport feels like a real place — the family manor has character, and there's Gothic atmosphere to spare.

We haven't hit on the story too much because, well, there's a lot of it. In his rush to cover as much ground from the series as possible (and leave the door open for possible sequels), screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith is a little too quick to truncate story lines that were developed over a more than thousand-episode run on the soap. It's all hung broadly on the milestones of Barnabas' attempts to reinvigorate the family business while courting Victoria Winters (Bella Heathcote) and acclimate to the many changes that have happened during the 200 years he was entombed.

Consider Barnabas' attempts to make himself mortal again with the help of Dr. Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter, bringing as much drunk fun as she can to an otherwise thankless part). It was the through line of the early-'90s revamp of "Shadows" but is a side note here — one saddled with an unnecessary added twist.

But with more working than not, we were willing to forgive that lack of focus until things took a fiery final turn. Perhaps unable to find a reasonable way to wrap up the many story lines, Grahame-Smith and Burton take things a little too far off the rails with a noisy and scattered climax that doesn't make much sense. Even the actors seem unsure of what's happening, and Depp, Pfeiffer and Green struggle to stay afloat amid all the noise.

(We're not even going to go there with the last-minute plot twist tossed at Chloë Moretz's character.)

"Shadows" will almost certainly leave casual fans baffled, not because it's bad (to be fair, some in the MTV Newsroom were not as turned off by the ending as we were), but because it's a passion project wearing the mask of a summer blockbuster.

Howard Stern Today Show Interview (Video)

America’s Got Talent judge Howard Stern was up to his usual antics this morning when he sat down with the Today show’s Matt Lauer for a little interview. If you missed the show this morning no worries I have the video right here for you to check out. Matt and Howard had quite the interesting little chat on the Today show today. As you may or may not know Stern is making the rounds to do publicity for America’s Got Talent, which premieres next week by the way. There was some joking around, of course, some inappropriate remarks, of course and some hugging. Oh yeah there was a male bonding moment for sure, well actually more like Howard in his own unique way having a bonding moment with Lauer. Obviously the two discussed AGT and what kind of judge the shock jock was going be. I don’t want to give too much away but he did diss the American Idol judges saying they never criticize anyone.. I don’t necessarily disagree with those remarks either. What was so entertaining about this interview was at one point Howard starting really ribbing Matt and let’s just say the Today co-host actually got embarrassed. [...]

pThe network ordered 10 hour long episodes premiering later this year.nbsp; Not sure how I feel about this, but here's the synopsis:/p
p class=rteindent1The Houston Family Chronicles follows those closest to the pop music icon as they try to pick up the pieces after her untimely death. Pat Houston, Whitneyrsquo;s sister-in-law, manager and most trusted confidant, manages the business and estate of the beloved singer and her most prized possession, her daughter Bobbi Kristina. The series will follow Pat and her husband, Gary, Whitney Houstonrsquo;s brother, as they take on their greatest challenge, supporting and guiding Bobbi Kristina as she faces the world alone, without the one person she relied on the most, her Mother./p

With the certainty of a microscopic lens focused on this young woman and her every move, Pat, Gary and their tight-knit group of family and friends are committed to seeing that Bobbi Kristina can grow and experience life unscathed. A true believer in the bond that women share called sisterhood, and a self proclaimed ldquo;womanrsquo;s woman, rdquo; Pat enlists the help of her and Whitneyrsquo;s inner circle, including Grammy Award winner Dionne Warwick and Gospel legend CeCe Winans, to assist her in such difficult times./p

Survivor One World Episode 13 Recap, The End of Tarzan!

We begin our recap of Survivor One World, Episode 13 on Night 33. The Tikiano Tribe has returned from Tribal Council after voting off Kat. The women seem giddy about it, but Tarzan, the last man left, is becoming more concerned about his own fate. He talks with Kim about the finals and tries to convince her that the Jury might support Chelsea or Sabrina over her. Tarzan thinks the men of the Jury will hate him since he helped betray the gender, and that the Jury has little love for either Alicia or Christina. Kim listens and seems to agree in part with what Tarzan is saying, but she hates the idea of betraying her gal-pal, Chelsea. Jeff Probst offers no relief for the last man standing, Dr. Tarzan, as he is booted from Survivor One World.  Image Credit:  PNP / Wenn.com. Day 34 and Chelsea is thinking that the tribe is now split evenly at 3 each. The factions are her, Kim and Sabrina versus Tarzan, Alicia and Christina. Chelsea talks with Christina about booting Tarzan next and promises to take Christina on a reward should she win one. Christina tells Kim, Alicia and Tarzan about Chelsea′s conversation. [...]

Happy Mother's Day From Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift

Above the Buzz rounds up the best pop songs praising mom.
By Jocelyn Vena

<P>Mother's Day is just around the bend &#8212; Sunday, to be exact. If you're reading this and that's news to you, you might want to order your mama some flowers and read on for some awesome mixtape song selections courtesy of <i>Above the Buzz</i>.</P><P>Pop music has had a longstanding tradition of cranking out tunes that pay homage to the most important woman in everyone's life: mommy dearest. How could you not look to mom for musical inspiration? She loves you unconditionally, pushes you to be your best, is an awesome shopping buddy and, at one point, let you make that terrible decision of rocking blond highlights back in high school when you really had no business being blonde.</P><P>Basically, she's your friend until the end. So, hit record on your boom box and collect these tunes to let mom know how much you love and appreciate her. (And, yes, I am writing this column from a random Mother's Day in the '90s when people still recorded mixtapes off boom boxes.)</P><P>In 1999, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/backstreet_boys/artist.jhtml">the Backstreet Boys</a> released a sappy ballad titled "The Perfect Fan." With touches of gospel on the track, the sentiment thanking their moms for always being supportive reaches it crescendo when the fivesome declare, "I wanna thank you for what you've done/ In hopes I can give back to you/ And be the perfect son." Writing a song about your mom, boys, is certainly a good start.</P><P>Years before BSB dropped their mommy ode, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/boyz_ii_men/artist.jhtml">Boyz II Men</a> released "A Song for Mama" in 1997. In the deeply emotional ballad produced and written by Babyface, the guys praise their mamas for showing them the right thing to do. "You're always there for me/ Have always been around for me, even when I was bad/ You showed me right from my wrong/ Yes, you did," they sing. And, we swooned.</P><P>That same year, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/spice_girls/artist.jhtml">the Spice Girls</a> released "Mama." Lyrically, it is a bit different from the tracks the boys released. The song is about the girls' growing relationships with their moms, who went from their biggest enemy when they were teens to being their best friends as adults. The ladies sing, "Back then, I didn't know why/ Why you were misunderstood/ So now I see through your eyes/ All that you did was love."</P><P>An equally touching ode from <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/aguilera_christina/artist.jhtml">Christina Aguilera</a>, "Oh Mother," delves into a more serious topics than those other tracks. Released in 2006, the song reflects on her mother's abusive relationship with her father. The song is incredibly personal, relaying some details about watching her mother get abused. But, in the end, she wants her mom to know this: "So mother, I thank you/ For all that you've done and still do/ You got me, I got you/ Together, we always pull through."</P><P>On the other side of the emotional mom rollercoaster is <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/swift__taylor/artist.jhtml">Taylor Swift</a>'s "The Best Day," which she dropped in 2008. The track is a mid-tempo jam about all the awesome things her mom does to make her feel better when she's low and all the things her mom taught her. "I know you were on my side even when I was wrong/ And I love you for giving me your eyes/ For staying back and watching me shine/ And I didn't know if you knew, so I'm takin' this chance to say/ That I had the best day with you today," she sings. You said it for all of us, girl!</P><P>With a new Mother's Day upon us, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a> is getting in on the action with his new track "Turn to You." Given the tradition he's following in, it's a nice sentiment from a boy who truly loves his mom. And, there's nothing more adorable than a pop star who knows where it's at.</P><P>Because we know where it's at, we have this final message: Happy Mother's Day, mom! All these songs say it all and so much more. You rock! Now, go tell your mom how you feel about her &#8212; she deserves it.</P><P><i>What's your favorite track showing love for mom? Share your pick below!</i></P><P><center><a href="http://www.mtv.com/photos/?fid=1617615"><img src="http://www.mtv.com/news/photos/s/spotted/banner/spotted.jpg"></a></center></p>

#7DaysofSex Challenge Finale Post And Giveaway!

Ok so day seven of our 7 days of sex challenge was obviously sexless, but that didn’t mean we couldn’t do the vow renewal part. And after the week we had, I think we both really wanted to. We sat down and talked the week out, it had certainly been an eventful one and was life changing. Though I wouldn’t say we said vows like in our wedding, we did talk about how far we have come since we met. We were 19, young, and had the world ahead of us. Now at 29 and 30, with 8 years of marriage under our belt, we still have so much ahead of us, but our future is much more planned – less sporadic. And that includes our sex life. I think when you start off so young you go through huge changes, and sometimes you grow in different directions. It doesn’t mean you love each other less, but you become different people. So growing in a relationship and learning about each other is a continuous process. We have gone from college students, to an engaged couple (in college), married (in college, and that was a challenge), to graduates with real jobs, [...]

Usher To Preview Looking For Myself At Off-Broadway Show

Singer tells MTV News 'Fuerza Bruta' matches the 'more artistic' music on his upcoming album.
By Jocelyn Vena

<P>This Saturday (and this Saturday only), Usher will appear in New York City's "Fuerza Bruta," an off-Broadway show where no one speaks, but the story is told through bright lights, music and dancing. In the lead role of Running Man, <a href="/music/artist/usher/artist.jhtml">Usher</a> will also use the show to preview his June album release, <a href="/news/articles/1682140/usher-looking-for-myself.jhtml"><i>Looking for Myself.</i></a></P><P>Fans in the audience will likely get closer than they've ever been to the singer, as the audience stands during the performance, becoming another member of the company. With several weeks until his album release, Usher explained to MTV News at a rehearsal why he wanted to use this show to preview tracks.</P><P><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:764205/cp~vid%3D764205%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A764205" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed></P><P>"I felt like the natural elements as well as the emotion of 'Fuerza Bruta' would definitely speak or be significant to some of the stories and I guess hopefully a connection [was there]," he explained of tying this performance to his album. "When we began to explore different directions [for the performance like] maybe we use some of their music, maybe we use some of mine ... and before you knew it the idea came together. We tried it, I got on Running Man and it worked."</P><P>The show will stream his entire album, which drops June 12, and he thinks the mind-bending artistry of "Fuerza Bruta" works with the sound he's created on it. "This is more artistic of an album than I've had in history," he said. "And I felt like yeah, it would be a lot for me, but I was willing to at least try it. There were many times I had seen the show and I only hoped that I would be able to make it happen."</P><P><center><a href="http://www.mtv.com/photos/?fid=1617615"><img src="http://www.mtv.com/news/photos/s/spotted/banner/spotted.jpg"></a></center></p>

Marvel's 'Avengers' Success: What Can DC Comics Learn From It?

Marvel Studios tentpole flick provides the perfect template for DC Comics to emulate in their post-'Dark Knight' movie endeavors.
By Josh Wigler

"The Dark Knight Rises" marks the end of an era on multiple levels: Not only is it the grand finale of Christopher Nolan's historic Batman film franchise, it's also the last DC Entertainment movie that's guaranteed to be a hit.

Sure, "Man of Steel" is just one year away, but what's to say that it'll fare better than "Superman Returns," which earned a mere $200 million domestically? And even though a sequel is reportedly in development, "Green Lantern" didn't exactly dazzle with its $116 million performance. Let's face it: Without the box-office behemoth known as the "Dark Knight" trilogy in its back pocket, DC's film future is uncertain at best.

Of course, it doesn't have to be that way. Some of the greatest and most iconic characters in comic book history reside under the DC banner. And if there was any doubt that superheroes have box-office appeal, look no further than "Marvel's The Avengers," which is breaking records and winning over new fans with every passing day. There's much to be learned from the House of Ideas' approach to building a superhero universe on the big screen — and even though they're on opposite sides of the aisle, and even if it's a little bit late in the game, DC would be wise to utilize Marvel's movie strategy ... albeit with some tweaks.

Sting Away
"I'm here to talk to you about the Avengers initiative," Nick Fury told Tony Stark at the end of 2008's "Iron Man," giving life to a shared Marvel movie-verse in one simple line of dialogue. Marvel is the master of using the post-credits stinger as a way to thread its movies together: "Iron Man 2" teasing Thor's hammer, the ending of "Thor" introducing the Cosmic Cube ahead of "Captain America," the list goes on. DC's earliest opportunity to apply the same idea is "Dark Knight Rises," but as the conclusion of a finite trilogy, it doesn't feel like the right place to get that particular ball rolling. They'd be wise to wait until "Man of Steel" flies into theaters in June 2013, ending Kal-el's big-screen comeback with an overt nod toward an expansive cinematic DCU to come.

The World's Finest
A "Man of Steel" stinger doesn't have to set up "Justice League," even if that's the obvious route. It would be just as easy, and perhaps even wiser, to allude to the existence of Batman in the new Superman's world. Nolan's trilogy will be long gone by the time "Man of Steel" drops, and the world will be ready for another trip to Gotham City. But rather than fast-tracking a solo Batman adventure that has to live up to Nolan levels of hype, why not skip straight ahead to the long-anticipated "Superman/Batman" movie? The double-billing of Henry Cavill's Man of Tomorrow and a new Caped Crusader would quickly gratify fans yearning for more Batman and Superman movies, as well as mark a major milestone in the creation of a shared DC universe without having to rush "Justice League" before it's ready.

Back in a Flash
"Superman/Batman" is the quick response to "Avengers"; a movie that can get off the ground by late 2014 or early 2015. It would be much more challenging to create a worthy "Justice League" movie in that time frame. More characters need to be established first: "The Flash," for example, is an easy yes for DC. "Green Lantern" sequels aren't as much of a necessity; a "Justice League" movie could always push Ryan Reynolds' Hal Jordan out of the picture in favor of another Lantern, like John Stewart or Kyle Rayner, introduced perhaps by way of a post-credits "Flash" scene. "Aquaman" and "Wonder Woman" movies would be nice as well, but the former is a hard sell, while the latter ... well, let's talk about the latter.

Hold the Wonder
I want a "Wonder Woman" movie as badly as anybody, but maybe it's best to hold off until after "Justice League." The reason: Hulk syndrome. Like Wonder Woman, Hulk has been a tricky character to pull off in live-action. But if there's anything "Avengers" nailed perfectly, it's "the Other Guy," a hero that few got right before Joss Whedon and Mark Ruffalo came along. Surrounding him with other heroes gave him innumerable opportunities to shine, and now people want to see him alone in his own "Hulk" movie again. I foresee a similar situation with Wonder Woman: Any all-star "Justice League" movie would prove to the uninitiated just how big of a badass Wonder Woman really is, all but guaranteeing the demand for a post-"Justice" solo flick, Jade Giant-style.

Hire Joss Whedon
Just kidding ... mostly. Above all else, the reason why "Avengers" works is because someone who knows, respects and cares about the characters was guiding the film. If DC decides to walk the road to "Justice League," they need someone with Whedon levels of passion and knowledge, someone who can bring Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and the others together with the love and care they deserve.

They could also just try hiring Joss Whedon. Worked out pretty well for Marvel!

How do you think DC should respond to "The Avengers"? Tell us in the comments section.

Katherine Heigl's Belly-Baring Workout

Not afraid to show a little skin, a mid-driff bearing Katherine Heigl was spotted heading to the gym in Los Angeles, California this afternoon (May 11).

Earlier this week Katherine hit up a local craft store with her mom where she bought a bunch of fabric and a sewing machine.
