'X Factor' Judges Discuss 'Bizarre' Performances, Infighting
Britney Spears admits the other judges 'ganged up' on her when they disagreed with her critique of a contestant.

<P>"The X Factor" judges <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/spears_britney/artist.jhtml">Britney Spears</a>, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lovato__demi/artist.jhtml">Demi Lovato</a>, L.A. Reid and Louis Walsh, the British "X Factor" panelist who has been sitting in for Simon Cowell while he recovers from bronchitis, are in Kansas City, Missouri, as auditions for the second season of the reality singing competition continue. The group gave <a href="http://www.toofab.com/2012/06/11/britney-spears-x-factor-bizarre-auditions-exclusive-video/" target="_blank">their first interview</a> since Spears and Lovato were announced as judges at the Fox upfronts.</P><P>The judges discussed the "bizarre" performances they've seen, how they get along, whether Spears' and Lovato's careers as performers make them more sympathetic or critical of the contestants, and the one time everyone ganged up on Britney.</P><P>"I feel like we've had a little bit of bizarre performances overall," Spears said of the Kansas City performances. "Britney likes me and Demi likes me," he said.</P><P>Asked which judge the rest of the team tends to agree with the most, Reid said that Spears has the best eye for contestants that have that special something. "We tend to agree with Britney more than others. Honestly, I'm being funny, but she has amazing taste."</P><P>"You ganged up on me one time though," Spears quickly countered, half-jokingly. "You three guys did. One time, [and] it wasn't nice!"</P><P>"One time out of 75 auditions, that's not bad," Reid replied.</P><P>As for what makes Spears happiest when judging, she said, "It's the best feeling when someone comes onstage and just makes us want to stand up and gives us energy."</P><P>Having made their names as entertainers, both Spears and Lovato admitted that their careers have helped them relate to the contestants because they've "been in their shoes." But it's a double-edged sword because it has made both judges more sympathetic to the show's contestants, particularly when they have to deliver bad news.</P><P>"It's something I've definitely had to learn. At first, I really didn't even want to do it," Lovato said of having to criticize contestants. "It's easier to say, when you're having meetings with people, 'Oh yeah, it will totally come easy,' or something. But when I got in the seat and had to give negative criticism to somebody ... it sucks. But they're asking for your advice, and by stepping on that stage, they also know that you could not like their performance. They're taking a chance, and I'm going to take a chance by telling them something that I believe."</P><P>The interview comes on the heels of news that all four judges <a href="/news/articles/1687014/britney-spears-demi-lovato-x-factor-auditions.jhtml">walked off the set</a> after a disastrous audition in which a contestant — who reportedly wasn't a particularly talented singer — sang with his back to the panel. "It was really awkward," a source told <a href="http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20602844,00.html" target="_blank">People.com</a>. "They didn't want to waste their time."</P><P><a href="http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20602881,00.html?xid=rss-topheadlines" target="_blank"><i>People</i></a> also reported that Spears is proving to be a tougher judge than many expected. A source told the magazine, "She's got a really good instinct, and when she loves something, she looks like she wants to dance on the desk. When she doesn't like someone, she is incredibly tough."</P><P>For her part, the pop star insists her firm stance is in the best interest of the contestants. "It's all tough love ... I promise!" Beyonce To Direct And Star In Feature Documentary?
Doc will reportedly take fans inside the superstar's life and career with blend of concert footage and confessional interviews.

<P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/knowles_beyonce/artist.jhtml/">Beyoncé</a> is one of the most thrilling multi-hyphenate superstars in the game, and now she's looking to pad her already-stacked résumé with another title: director. The pop diva is reportedly shopping a documentary feature about her life and career that she will star in, direct and produce.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Beyoncé - "Love on Top"" isvevo="true" isrc="USSM21101548" id="vid:702484" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>The <a href="http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/movies/moviesnow/la-et-mn-beyonce-to-direct-star-in-a-documentary-20120801,0,1760231.story" target="_blank"><i>Los Angeles Times</i></a> reports that Beyoncé's agents at ICM are looking for distribution for a documentary focusing on her life and career that would blend performance footage with confessional interviews. A source close to the film, who was not authorized to talk about it publicly, revealed that 20 minutes of footage has been shown to prospective distributors.</P><P>Beyoncé previously starred in, but did not direct, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/videos/beyonce-year-of-4/1666691/playlist.jhtml">"Beyoncé: Year of <i>4,</i>"</a> a reflective MTV documentary that chronicled the star's return to the studio to make her hit 2011 album <i>4</i> after taking a year off. "My life was award shows and tour buses and hotels, and it kind of goes by so fast. I couldn't even hear it anymore," <a href="/news/articles/1666569/beyonce-year-of-4.jhtml">she says</a> in the film. "It was very risky for me to set out on my own. Sometimes we don't reach for the stars, sometimes we are satisfied with what people tell us we're supposed to be satisfied with, and I'm just not going for it."</P><P>Much has happened in the year-plus since "Year of <i>4</i>" was produced for the star to explore in a feature-length film. Behind the scenes, she took control of her career, <a href="/news/articles/1660837/beyonce-mathew-knowles.jhtml">parting ways professionally</a> with her longtime manager, father Mathew Knowles, in March 2011. A few months later, in June, she released her hit album <i>4.</i></P><P>In August 2011, Beyoncé revealed at the MTV Video Music Awards that she was <a href="/news/articles/1669849/beyonce-pregnant-vmas.jhtml">expecting her first child</a> with husband Jay-Z. The couple <a href="/news/articles/1676906/beyonce-jay-z-baby-born-ivy-blue.jhtml">welcomed a daughter</a>, Blue Ivy Carter, in January. Gabby Douglas Gets Olympics Love From Beyonce, Lil Wayne, More

<P>It's been an impressive run for Team U.S.A. over in London. As the <a href="/news/articles/1691023/olympics-carly-rae-jepsen-austin-mahone.jhtml">Summer Olympics</a> continue to captivate the world, event after event, it was a girl who has been nicknamed "The Flying Squirrel" who won not only the gold in the women's gymnastics all-around final competition on Thursday, but also the <i>hearts</i> of some of the biggest stars in entertainment.</P><P>What makes Gabby Douglas' win even more impressive is that the 16-year-old is the first African-American woman to take home the honor, a feat that has earned her major kudos from some major players in the music world and beyond. Kelly Rowland spoke to MTV News earlier this week, and she showed love to the soon-to-be gold medalist, proudly exclaiming, "Gymnastics! Gabby Douglas! <P>A pesar de lo dicho ayer, Peter Mensch, manager del guitarrista Jimmy Page, se retractó totalmente en eso que la banda buscaría un reemplazo al ultragenial Robert Plant para seguir rockeando y toureándola por el mundo tras su show de 2007 en el O2 Arena de Londres por el poder de la música más sexual de la historia. No habrá más Led Zeppelin, no hay planes de que lo haya.</P><P>Mensch comentó: "Led Zeppelin se acabó. Si no los vieron en el 2007, se los perdieron. Probaron reemplazantes a Robert Plant, pero nada funcionó. Se acabó. No hay planes para continuar.
